An individual who didn’t want to be indentified has announced that Lance Armstrong intends to admit to applying forbidden preparations during an interview with the American media proprietor Oprah Winfrey. Is this a right decision of the prominent cyclist? Points of view differ. Some persons suppose that if the disgraced American cyclist admits to doping, he will restore his reputation. Others claim that the admission will not be able to change anything. Several other persons claim that if Lance Armstrong does it, he will probably go to jail.
As you know, Lance Armstrong denied applying steroids and other prohibited medicines. He seemed to succeed till the USADA released a dossier on him. The USADA’s report provided doping evidence. As a result, the cyclist forfeited his 7 Tour de France titles. Furthermore, his sponsors left him. In addition to these negative results, Lance Armstrong had to distance himself from the foundation Livestrong in order to prevent negative influence of his problems on it.
Will Lance Armstrong admit to administering banned medications? Which will be consequences?
Certain experts suppose that prosecution will take place, if Lance Armstrong admits to doping. The cyclist has claimed under the oath that he never took any forbidden medicines. Thus, if he admits to doping, it means that he admits to lying under the oath. As a result, he may be sentenced to prison. That’s why several experts affirm that Lance Armstrong should continue denying doping.
But there are persons who believe that the admission will change nothing. Millions of individuals with cancer that have survived with the help of Livestrong praise Lance Armstrong. The former cyclist is a hero for them. These persons like the former cyclist, regardless of whether he has doped or not. If even Lance Armstrong admits to using prohibited medications throughout his cycling career, these individuals will continue to support him.
But there is also another point of view. If Lance Armstrong provides important information about usage of forbidden medicines in the US Postal Service Cycling Team, his suspension from competitions may be reduced. Thus, the disgraced cyclist will probably return to competitions.
It is unclear whether Lance Armstrong will really admit and which results will follow.
