The Canadian wrestler Colin Daynes tested positive for forbidden medicines. It means that he will not compete at the Summer Olympics. He was sentenced to 2-year ban.
Last year the sportsperson was chosen for the Windsor/Essex County Sports Hall of Fame.
The wrestler was banned by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports. He failed a drug test, when he got a gold medal in the 74-kg division.
Colin Daynes tested positive for Drostanolone, Boldenone, Tamoxifen and Furosemide. Each of these medications is in the list of forbidden medicines of the World Anti-Doping Agency. As for Drostanolone and Boldenone, they are anabolic steroids. Furosemide represents a diuretic preparation. It is used as a masking agent for other medications. Tamoxifen is a product which is advised for prevention of undesirable results which occur due to steroid cycles.
The athlete admitted to administration of prohibited products and accepted the sentence. He claimed that he administered the banned medications in order to get recovery from an injury. The athlete told to The Star Monday night that he wanted to recover in order to be able to participate in the 2012 Olympics. The wrestler noted that a naturopathic doctor advised to administer these medicines. The wrestler also added that he hadn’t known that the products were prohibited. According to his statements, if he had known, he wouldn’t have participated in competitions.
Colin Daynes was going to represent Canada at the Olympics again. He represented his country at the 1996 Olympics which were in Atlanta.
Daynes didn’t attempt to defense himself. The wrestler noted that there was no any difference whether the prohibited drugs were found in the blood or not. They were in the system.
Earlier Colin Daynes also competed in mixed martial arts. He had to qualify internationally. The wrestler hoped that he would compete at the Summer Olympics in London last time. Then his career comes to the end. But he was banned because of positives for prohibited products.
Bill Hogarth, the personal trainer of Colin Daynes, claims that that the things are too bad. But the wrestler didn’t want to lie. Hogarth hopes that the wrestler’s reputation will not be destroyed. His career was marked by getting of 62 gold medals, 11 silver and 5 bronze medals.
